The Turning Gaze is an original portrait oil painting by Chinese artist Yang Huaxi, depicting a young dancer turning quietly toward the viewer.

Set against a dark, restrained background, the figure emerges gradually through soft light, subtle skin tones and carefully controlled brushwork. Rather than emphasising movement or performance, Yang Huaxi focuses on a brief, inward moment — the expression, posture and quiet presence of the sitter.

The painting reflects the artist’s long-standing interest in figurative painting and the emotional character of ordinary human moments.
