Woman in Backlight is an original figurative oil painting by Yang Huaxi, showing a standing female figure partially silhouetted by light inside a quiet interior.

Instead of describing the sitter through facial detail, Yang builds the image through light, shadow and the outline of the body. The surrounding architecture remains soft and restrained, allowing the illuminated space around the figure to become part of the subject.

The result sits between portrait and interior painting — a study of a person, but equally a study of atmosphere and light.
