Contemporary Chinese Oil Painter  HUAXI YANG

A painter exploring memory, quiet presence, and the poetry of everyday life.

Huaxi Yang is a contemporary Chinese oil painter currently based in Shenzhen. His work moves between portraiture, still life, and scenes drawn from memory, exploring quiet emotional moments through the language of oil painting.

Rather than dramatic narratives, Yang's paintings often focus on subtle presence — a gaze, a gesture, or the silent atmosphere of an interior space.

Huaxi's Yang studio practice is rooted in a philosophy of slow painting. Each work develops gradually through layers of oil paint, allowing color, light, and form to emerge over time.

For Huaxi Yang , painting is not only an image but a process of observation and reflection.

In 2016, he traveled to Italy to study classical European oil painting, deepening his understanding of light, composition, and painterly structure.

Huaxi Yang graduated from the Art College of Guizhou University in 1994 and later pursued advanced training at several major institutions, including the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, the Chinese National Academy of Arts Oil Painting Institute, and the Tsinghua University Academy of Arts and Design.

Across portraiture, still life, and narrative subjects,Huaxi’s Yang paintings reflect a quiet balance between realism and poetic atmosphere.

His works often invite viewers to pause and look slowly, discovering emotional depth within seemingly ordinary moments.

Through careful layering of oil paint, Yang develops subtle tonal relationships and textures that give his paintings their quiet presence.

These surfaces reveal the physical process of painting — brushstrokes, pigments, and the passage of time embedded within the work.
